From 2018:

While there is no official tally of the number of House hobos who turn their offices into makeshift bedrooms…put the estimate at around 100 representatives, or more than one-fifth of the governing body. Publicly, about 50 members have ‘fessed up to it.

Their ranks include everyone from House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to New York Reps. Donovan, Gregory Meeks (D-Queens/LI), Lee Zeldin (R-LI), John Katko (R-Syracuse) and Brian Higgins (D-Buffalo).

Yeah, my heart fucking bleeds for them.

And now…

It’s a practice Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., would like to see permanently banned.

Rank and file members of Congress make around $174,000 a year. One-bedroom apartments in D.C., which would likely serve as a secondary place of residence for members, can cost more than $2,000 a month.

“When people say, ‘Well, it’s very, very expensive to live in Washington,’ that’s true,” Speier says. “But you ran for this office knowing what the salary was and what the expectation was. So to then decide that you’re going to turn your office into a bedroom is not appropriate.”

I guess they could all go live at the “dorm” on C Street.

I personally think the government should build a dorm for Congressional members to stay at if they want. Because you are required to keep a home residence - it is your home residence, after all - and pay for something in Washington. $175K would be comfortable living here in Dallas, not wealthy, but comfortable, but having to pay for a second place to sleep would add to that.
