I would be totally in favor of outlawing the hiring of undocumented, if AND ONLY IF, any punishment (fine and/or prison) for violation was on the employer. The employee would of course, as a criminal witness, get a temporary green card until the case is fully adjudicated.

I thought that was part of the Immigration Reform of 1988…
