Carlson is defining for his audience that The Law, and thus law enforcement, is defined by their appetites, not by any written code or justice system.

A cop that does not defer to them is not a cop, just as an American that does not defer to them is not an American.

But this has always been what “support the troops” and “back the blue” has been about…the need for enforcers to do the cruel and violent things to maintain the status quo. A cop that questions their entitlement to do violence or a soldier that questions the premise of the war they fight is no use to people who simply want a kind of servant who does violence.

Indeed, Tucker is stoking fear of the worst case scenario: that the enforcers can turn on his audience, that view themselves as not bound by the laws they wish to inflict on others.
