Fox News Commenters Respond to Somalia Story with Deluge of Racism

Well, sure, the personal touch sort of racism probably remains at a steady level. But I don’t agree that Fox is just noise. It’s influential, and it means that someone may have to hear yet another tired bit of racism that they otherwise wouldn’t have— because it’s coming from the TV, now, not just the asshole on the bus.

Yes. But according to the SPLC, but the activity and the membership of those groups are on the rise. I’m not saying that the groups are new, or the views they hold are new, or even that people who feel the way those groups do are new, but that they’re, too use the Bushism, ‘emboldened’.

Thing is, I don’t need SPLC to tell me about the prevalence of eliminationist bigots. So they’ve once again come out of the closet…I offer they aren’t all that closeted to begin with.

It’s that age old question, especially in the internet age. Are there more of them now, or have they always been there and are now “becoming emboldened”, some combination of the two. I say the two are not mutually exclusive and yes, they have definitely always been there, every bit as virulent and nasty as Fox comments.
