… but it would have more if we actually owned up, as a nation, to having fucked up over Iraq, and maybe committed to some kind of reparations in kind. But we’re not likely to do that, are we? Because that would mean a) admitting that our leaders in Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld (remember him?) et al. had actually done something wrong, and b) sharing some of our wealth with people outside our borders, neither of which are things we’re particularly good at.

“Leadership discontinuity” is a marvelous way to diminish the huge importance of the differences between the administrations and the circumstances.

I’m sorry but this just is a whole completely other thing. The Ukraine has just about nothing in common with Iraq, it ain’t GWB and our past mistakes hardly take away our ability to object to acts like what we see in Crimea and Ukraine. Some seem to think we need to publicly self flagellate for a few decades before we can speak up again as a nation. I don’t buy it.

This unending sour grapes domestic angst about GWB & Iraq that has little or nothing to do with realpolitik in the Ukraine is not helping anyone anywhere. Pure grist for the still mad about Iraq population. Other issues abound that fit that point of view far better.
