re: #668 b_sharp

I just got a tweet from a friend of mine who claimed that after Florida went with concealed carry crime plummeted.

I did a check on when CC started in Florida, 1987, and then compared gun murders from 1993 to 2010

I found stats on Florida gun murders from ‘87 to 93 but not equivalent time period for the US as a whole.

The US murder by gun numbers went from 17075 deaths to 11078, a 35% drop.
The Florida murder by gun rate over the same time period went from 1187 deaths to 987 a drop of 16.8%.

Are there any RWNJs out there that do not promote spurious correlations?

It also helps to keep in mind that, since peaking in the 1980s, crime in America has been on a downward trend since. And there have been far better reasons given for that, amongst them the banning of leaded gasoline, than the prevalence of concealed gun laws.
