I’m not really here for your personal beef with the IAU. I only wanted to provide some additional context from folks who have done the math, to show what definitions they were working off of, because that is how science works. You show your assumptions, you provide your definitions, and you ask other scientists to find holes in your work.

Not through Internet thinkpieces arguing for public opinion, like that influences the facts of the matter on hand.

At this point, it is a matter of definitions, and as long as the ones being used are clearly spelled out, I don’t really give a fuck.

My tendency is to defer to the consensus of degree experts actually working in a field when it comes to defining terms.

I’m weird that way, a man’s got to know his limitations.
