Abe, Moon and especially Xi made sure they inflated Trump’s ego like a big balloon, and made it very public. In China, I’m pretty the message was clear: Trump is a buffoon, easily impressed by glamour, and a nitwit — watch as our President Xi plays him like a fiddle. Xi laid out the red carpet for Obama, too, but it was not over the top, because Obama is not that kind of leader and would have smelled something was up.

IOW, Japan, South Korea and China are laughing at Trump, and by extension, us.

ADDENDUM: I’m absolutely sure China closed the Imperial Palace for Trump’s visit for a reason: to make him think he was some kind of foreign emperor on a state visit. It was an unprecedented move. Not even China’s own president would get such treatment, if he had the temerity to even suggest it.
