I highly recommend Brian Klaas’s book The Despot’s Apprenctice, because he talks about this very scenario, as well as the many other things that have been talked about since Trump became President. It’s a fast read, and it will make your blood boil because you will relive the insanity of the first ten months of the Trump presidency (the book went to press in October 2017), but it’s all written in the framework of Trump’s authoritarian demeanor and ultimate contempt for the rule of law and democracy. It isn’t alarmist - Klaas doesn’t compare Trump to Hitler or say that he’s going to suspend the constitution or impose martial law - but it does show how, from the beginning, Trump has worked to erode our democratic institutions, with the aide of Congressional Republicans. So check it out.

Speaking of Congressional Republicans, do not the actions of Devin Nunes, Matt Gaetz, Jim Jordan, and even Trey Gowdy at least flirt with obstruction of justice? I think this whole #ReleaseTheMemo nonsense, in part, is just as serious as that which Trump has done. They are aiding and abetting him. Which makes them criminals, as well as Quislings.
