I forgot that part of it. But the novel did a great job of showing how we deal with most any crisis: first ignore it, then suppress it, then spread lies to prevent panic, and then wind up inciting even greater panic when the public finds out how much they have been lied to.

We are just getting to that last part…

We’re not even really at the cusp yet of the Great Panic. Really, right now, we’re still at the “Everybody has Phalanx and the zombies are being suppressed, so there’s nothing to worry about” stage. Most of the country is still either working or in school, with summer break over a month away. I rather think we won’t start to see the real panicking until Memorial Day.
