And in case anyone was wondering: USS Bonhomme Richard is still burning in San Diego (for the fourth day): though the Navy says the fire(s) is(are) much contained, and the oil onboard unlikely to catch fire/explode/spill into the harbor.
Last report said just two spots deep down still ablaze, so it appears the vessel has been “saved” - more-or-less: still not the least estimate if/when it may/may not be able to return to service.

4 days of intense fires is likely to cause significant structural issues. It may take months or even years to repair those damaged areas, and the question becomes whether it’s more cost effective to build new or scrap it.

Cost for the ship was $1.5 billion, so they’ll have to take a good look at what it might cost to repair and whether it’s worth it.
