As much as I hate to be caught defending him, that quote in itself strikes me as no more than a knee jerk wish for the supposedly good old days of white anglo saxon christian dominance in politics. It can be a cultural bias as much as a racist one, and I think we are all prone to the former.

On the other hand, I often wonder how Mormons reconcile their obviously racist theology, tempered only because they had to do so, not because the golden plates said so.

What about his famous line about Obama having a “deep-seated hatred for white people and

white culture”

? Was that race-baiting or just projection?
