Even though carry in NYC will never happen, I have to admit, the idea of eight million gun-ignorant New Yorkers being allowed to legally carry handguns frightens me. I’m thinking, like, weekly double-digit body counts from negligent discharges… If there was to be a blanket federal CHL, it would need to come with big fat training subsidies for the left coast city dwellers! Yeesh.

Well, not to nit-pick, but there are not even 300,000 carriers in Texas, a state with 24 million or so. Gun carrying in practice is like drivers licenses, only more rare. One must be old enough, screened, trained, and the requirements in these specifics can always be raised. To “allow guns” does not mean to hand them out on street corners. People who get them have demonstrated that they are at least as responsible as police.
