Lightroom is pretty good, though the workflow is not to my personal liking. However, if you download it for the free trial and like it, go for it. I suggest you take a peek before buying. I happen to use Picasa which is free. Then i use Photoshop CC for conversion and post.

Thanks. I’ve already read a few articles & watched several videos, so I think I have a pretty good idea of how it works—it should beat the hell out of trying to use Bridge for everything.

Sometimes, like this weekend, I have to deal with a huge number of files—in this case it was 200+ hi-res images of paintings—I think it would really help with stuff like that, especially since, as I understand it, the original file isn’t actually changed.

I really like Lightroom, but where it shines for me is in the photo manipulation I can do because I shoot in RAW. I don’t make proper use of its photo management capabilities, I’m sure, so I can’t really speak to them.

That being said, that’s the equivalent of student pricing on it, and I’ve generally felt it’s a pretty good deal at those prices. I’ll need to remember for next year, now that I can’t get student pricing anymore.

Perfect response—thanks! Barring sudden death or dismemberment, I intend to get an entry-level DSLR that can shoot RAW in the next year or so, so even if I end up not being crazy about the image management capabilities, it’s kinda irresistible at that price.

Fuck it, I’m going for it.
