Uh as an Irish-American, I have to ask what freedom was there for the Union Army to offer Irish-Americans? We weren’t enslaved and Lincoln while I think he sympathized with the Irish blight in Ireland had no power whatsoever to do anything in regards to British landlords treating Irish peasants like crap. We Irish-Americans were free. We were not enslaved like the African-Americans in the South. Life in 19th century Ireland was tough no doubt about it and that’s why my great great grandparents came here but we were not enslaved. especially once we got here. This kind of shit is insulting.

My gggggggggggparents (Scotch-Irish) were indentured servants. They weren’t exactly “free.” But they did get there eventually, without a war.
