Let’s also say how fucking STUPID a balanced budget amendment is.

No borrowing would mean we can’t be the world’s reserve currency anymore. Also… how the fuck would we have ever built the transcontinental railroad, or won WWII, without borrowing? How could anybody you know ever buy a house (or even cars FFS) or send their kids to college if borrowing was seen as fiscally wrong? How would companies get off the ground? How would there be any capital investments in ANYTHING?

“The federal budget should be like your household budget!”

“So you bought everything you own with cash only? Not a single credit card?”

“Well…”

“And you bought your house with cash, you’ve never had a mortgage in your life?”

“Hey now…”

“And you paid cash for every car you’ve owned, and got through college with cash only?”

“I’m just saying the federal budget shouldn’t borrow money, only pay out what you take in!”

“Then why don’t you follow your own advice?!”

“Because I’m dirt poor because the money hasn’t trickled down to me yet!”
