That recipe must have been in The Joy of Cooking or some other contemporary cookbook. It sounds exactly like the meatloaf my mother made.

Betty Crocker I’d bet. My mother “glazed” meatloaf with ketchup or A1 sauce as well. I tend to use a hot sauce or something similarly spicy myself.

I also have a “salmon loaf” recipe using canned salmon and used to glaze that with jalapeno jelly.
