I don’t understand that phrase?

Concertina wire is usually placed as an obstacle in a defensive position. When the enemy is in the wire, it has two meanings -

1) they are very close

2) they should be in your kill zone. They call it FPF or Final Protective Fire, but if an LT has staked out his defenses correctly and the enemy is in the wire and everyone goes to FPF, you end up with a lot of dead enemy. Concertina is no fun to get through and slows them down or channels them into your kill zone.
