Apparently, releasing any of his identity would compromise the investigation. I don’t know the reason.

Why would the Sheriff protect criminals and then turn around and make such a strong condemnation of his own state? He was against the immigration law, also.

There could be more involved parties out there, and they don’t want them to know they’re on the radar. They may have information they’re sitting on until they have a chance to interrogate this guy. They may believe he acting without knowing what the shooter planned.

Lots of possibilities at this stage of an investigation.
