One of my sons is a fund-raiser for a religious organization. He made the decision quite early in his career, that if he is going to talk people into giving donations, then he is going to go, like Willie Sutton, “where the money is.”

His brothers call him unkind nicknames, like “remora,” “tick,” “scabie,” and “truffle sniffer.”

He works on salary, not commission. If he worked on commission he would be very wealthy but he think that’s not ethical. However his 1% patrons have given him financial advice so he lives much nicer than my other kids in Brooklyn.
