Yea, and things are going virtual FAST. We will probably be mostly using a combination of little phone-like devices and big compute cycles in a cloud, at least until someone comes up with a way to screw the competition over by reversing the centralization of IT (which, I expect to happen).
But, any juncture at which someone could have made a firm machine/person/number connection, well those junctures are all years in the past. Nobody could ever promise IP/MAC address consistency back then, and surely not now.
