It’s pretty ironic that the Soviet Union’s successful propaganda attempts to get Western leftists to ally and support them undercut the credibility of leftist movements in the US and Europe, leading to a heavy reaction against leftist ideas and a much more right-wing US and Europe.

A double irony in that Marx could have told them it wasn’t a ‘real’ communist revolution, since it wasn’t happening in an industrialized country. Wasn’t even right on theory.

One of the most common critiques among the anti-Bolshevik left is that Lenin was trying to leapfrog history and create a Marxist society in which the preconditions for it simply weren’t present, no matter how much Lenin tried to twist the facts to suit his vision.
