Look at the GOP race and think seriously about the idea of meeting bombastic rhetoric and lunacy with objective fact. At different times in the race, Paul, Bush, and Kasich tried to argue objective fact as a counter to extremist rhetoric. Two of them are now gone and the third is likely to be gone by month’s end.

I keep hearing the same thing from Trump supporters as I heard from Dubya supporters, and Reagan supporters before them: “He makes me feel good about America.” The man can dial back the hatred and keep pushing the “Make America Great Again” shit and win a lot of people who will have suffered amnesia between now and November. Just for example, I was talking to the guy at Firestone the other day while my car was being worked on about the election. And this was a guy whose experience I respect, so when he told me he thinks Trump would be good for the nation because he’s a businessman and that’s the sort of person we need in the White House to get the economy moving again, it was everything I could do to keep my jaw shut.
