I don’t think it’s an indicator of inherent strength but I believe the way we’re set up now that some states are guaranteed safe Democrat just as some are safe Republican. I do agree with you that he doesn’t hold up well under tough questions and scrutiny. The scary thing is the GOP would have sold Trump as a “moderate” compared to him.

Not that safe. Last night, I noted that Elizabeth Warren could only reasonably be assured of six states in the general election of a Presidential run. Three of those states have Republican governors (MA, MD, VT), and two others had them as recently as 2010 (CA, HI).
