According to an exhibit I saw years ago at a local museum in Indiana, whiskey was often used as currency in southern Indiana/northern Kentucky in the 1800s (probably true across the region into Appalachia).

Think about this - the first reaction against the US government was against taxes levied on Whiskey because that was the easiest way to save grain. As soon as a real US government existed they created excise taxes on whiskey. The growers of that grain rebelled and PRESIDENT George Washington called out the militia and lead it into battle. The only president that was forced to do so.

These are things the far right does not want you to know or understand.

These are things that the so called libertarians hate with a passion because it puts the lie to their illusion of freedom.
