Re those explosions in Holland, yesterday I read an article in Spanish on Deutsche Welle and it pointed out a couple of things:

* Not the first time a diagnostic clinic was targeted. When the Dutch lockdown with curfew started in January, a diagnostic clinic in Urk (why yes, that’s the town name) was set on fire.

* Both Bovenkarspel and Urk are in the Dutch “Bible Belt” and the article points out that there’s a tradition of anti-vaxxer stupidity (my editorial comment) among the conservative Protestants.

* This particular area has 81 infected per 100,000 persons, compared to 27.2 persons per 100,000 in the rest of Holland.

There’s a lot going on there, and gee, it’s quite similar to what’s going on here.

ETA: I just have to point out that there’s a Dutch group against reasonable restrictions during the pandemic, called “Viruswaarheid” (Truth over the virus) and it was founded and led by a professor of *dance* who uses the group as a vehicle to promote conspiracy theories. Sound familiar?

Not quite related but it is, that same conservative protestant church tradition was the basis of the Afrikaner Calvinism that made such a mess out of South Africa.
