The job worth doing is the socialization of each individual. Each should know they are needed to build and hang on to the whole. Exposure to the needs of society could promote empathy, perhaps even among the overprivileged. Pay needs to be increased at the entry level of the current military, as well as any service of the future.

One issue with this is that forced public service will have a backlash that will be worst among exactly the pre-sociopaths who most need to understand society.
