In this case, though, it’s the hotel’s screwup, because the client paid for the previous night so they could check in at 9:00 am the next day. I don’t know if this ever happens in the US, but here there’s a definite reason in Europe why you’d want to do this. The problem is the hotel deciding that you never arrived the previous day, even though there were all sorts of notes about it in the booking, and giving away the room.
