re: #688 albusteve

I’ve said all along that sooner or later the 1st Amendment is gonna take a hit…maybe the feds should dust off the sedition laws and try to impose them…

I don’t know if I’d go that far. Dusting off old sedition laws? Seems a bit of an over-reaction, don’t you think?

There’s plenty of tools currently available to law enforcement to deal with any organized militias or self-styled “patriots” or “revolutionaries” who take the law into their own hands and get violent. No need to go back and resurrect laws that were in place hundreds of years ago.

people are pissed

They’re pissed off out of proportion to what they’re raging against. That’s the problem.

It’s normal to dislike a government policy, or a politician and their ideas. What is NOT normal are the more extreme actions we’re seeing, and the encouragement of more overtly angry or violent acts. What’s not normal is the perpetual panic/fear/outrage machine at work that is keeping people angry and scared. That’s what we need to confront. We need to try and find a way to bring civility back to the normal political voice in this country. All the angry rhetoric is just making things that much more difficult.
