I really do feel as a country we lost something when the Greatest Generation started leaving us in droves. Decency & perspective.

I remember them well, they weren’t that great or decent tbh.

They have been idealized a bit, but despite certain issues with women, gays and minorities, they also stand for a time when the nation as a whole understood a lot more about solidarity and promoting the common good and not just about the politics of favoring the elites.
