Speaking of 2001, I just saw this little snippet off Wikipedia that caught my attention:

Director Christopher Nolan is set to present a mastered 70mm print of 2001 for the film’s 50th Anniversary at the Cannes Film Festival on May 12th, 2018. The new 70mm print is a photochemical recreation made from the original camera negative, something which hasn’t happened since the film’s original theatrical run

I’d love to be there for that.

Ummm, “photochemical recreation made from the original camera negative”?? Am I missing some technical point here, or is that what we lay folk would simply term “a new print”??
