And to his credit, he was fine with that but I don’t take him seriously at all politically because frankly he just wants to read propaganda.

If he does it again, watch it with him, hold onto the remote, and pause and fact-check your way through it. You might talk him down a little, and at the very least, he’ll never try to watch propaganda with you again.
