It’s not just right-wing nuts either.

It kind of fits in with arguments of “if there’s no God, how can there be objective morality? Why wouldn’t people just go round raping and killing?”

a) There isn’t any objective morality.
b) Laws
c) If you need religion to keep from raping and killing, by all means I don’t want you to give up religion.

My response to that argument is “The threat of eternal punishment doesn’t seem to be doing much to stop raping and killing.”
