Exactly. Motherhood might interrupt a woman’s career path, but even women who haven’t had kids and who have worked the entire time in their chosen field still make less than similarly qualified men at the same job.
That’s the crucial point that Alex deliberately missed. Also, to put the modern workforce even further in to perspective, the women are on average better educated. They’ve surpassed men not only in college enrollment but in the attainment of advanced degrees.
As more and more men do the stay at home thing now as a result of women’s greater earning power in individual relationships, the continued disparity for the same work done should become more and more noticeable. Factoring in marriage doesn’t really explain things anymore.
