As for slavery, the only reason it wasn’t an official slave state was because of the Compromise of 1850. But they hated us long before we were in great numbers here. Once we started to come here, there were anti-alien laws and school, housing, and employment segregation statutes, long in place.

All true. And, again, I’m not implying that racism is solely some southern phenomenon. But, come on, you gotta admit that nobody did racism as “well” as the South. They seceded over it, after all. And the current racist political strategy isn’t known as the western strategy.
