I had to look it up earlier, it’s a fucking retarded term. I get that drifting apart kind of just happens naturally when families aren’t close, but there’s something kind of pathological about doing it so actively that one actually comes up with a name for it. I can only really see that happening when real abuse has occurred. The only crime Chuck’s family seems to have committed is still loving and accepting him in spite of the horrible person he’s become. That apparently hurts so much he’s thinking about rejecting them.
