Putin has generated a lot of fans on the Left who wee him as a bulwark against Western Capitalism and all the evils it engenders and at the same time a lot of fans on the Right who see him as a bulwark against liberal moral corruption envy his authoritarian, oligarchic, theocratic state.

And those two factions fall into a mutual feedback cycle that keeps propping up useful figures like Bernie and Tulsi.

He has so destabilized us that he is pretty much free to do whatever he wants to (or can, given his circumstances) without any major interference.

That’s not my question. You’re answering what. I’m asking why. There’s nothing about Putin that suggests he’s a champion against unregulated capitalism or imperialism. Tulsi and Sanders are useful idiots to be sure but what I’m stumped as to is why.
