Biggest problem for Bush WRT the economy was he didn’t seem able to project any empathy about it. Then he tried to convince people that they were wrong, and while he was TECHNICALLY correct that the economy was no longer in recession, that wasn’t what people were experiencing.

Clinton came out of the primary because he has always been able to connect with people’s pain, so that they felt heard.

Perot connected more with people’s anger and frustration.

That’s a pretty solid analysis, really.
