re: #33 simoom
I’m really torn on this. Biden’s distraction probably necessitated a public statement, but it may be bad news no matter what the President does in the interview.
If he reiterates his previous statements, which have basically been what his personal religious beliefs are on marriage and that he doesn’t support discriminatory laws and constitutional amendments, that he was publicly opposed to NC’s amendment 1 (he came out against it in March), that he’s worked to roll back discriminatory laws federally like DADT and DOMA, etc the left will have one of it’s typical, apocalyptic meltdowns at his “betrayal”.
If he comes out publicly in favor of full marriage equality, something his admin has hinted to the left he’d likely do after the election, he’ll likely encourage, combined with what happened in NC with Amendment 1, GOP controlled legislatures across the country to again make Gay Marriage an election year ballot issue wedge. I’m unsure how that would turn out but I lean toward it being most likely a setback for LGBT rights with more constitutional amendments passing and increased GOP enthusiasm / turnout.
