The GOP’s in a massively poor position right now to do much of anything. Obama has them by the balls and they can’t really do much except whine. If he wanted to, he could push out the negotiations til January, take the tax hikes, then propose middle class tax cuts and let the GOP publicly hang themselves with their own ideology.

The proper response to that is to point out he acted in bad faith then refuse to meet with him at all until he makes some concessions.
