I have a reasonable expectation that over the course of a two-year presidential primary and subsequent election, every single Wright sermon was pored over with a fine-toothed comb by oppo-researchers. And the best quotes they found were “god damn America” and the “9/11 chickens.” If there were hours upon hours of blatantly offensive and outright racist material you can bet your sweet ass Clinton or McCain would have been all over it.

Again, not saying that Wright isn’t a bigoted asshat. But it’s pretty clear that every single one of his sermons are being tarred with the brush of the most offensive things he said over the course of a 20 year career. I consider myself educated and tolerant, but I’ve definitely said some shit that I wouldn’t appreciate being chosen as singular examples of my character. Describing every one of his sermons over the course of 20 years as being filled with “kill whitey” and “god damn America” is simply a false assertion. Not denying he didn’t say those things, but they also shouldn’t be used to characterize every single sermon he made. Unless there is evidence to the contrary. Which marine brat certainly doesn’t have.
