There’s evidently some sentiment out there that this event will serve to teach leftists a lesson or something. How that works beats me. People don’t normally do what you tell them after that sort of a crime. It just stiffens their resolve.

I think you just hit on it. They depend on false vision of their adversaries.

Problem is, they are they types who define themselves solely in terms of their adversaries. So they end up also having an extremely distorted idea about themselves on top of it.
