re: #724 palomino

I think you left out the anti-Chinese laundry act in San Francisco. Ironically it led to the first Supreme Court decision upholding the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment, in the Yick Wo case.

Purely subjective, I’ll admit, but I would contend that anti-black (and anti-Asian as well) sentiment is more of a problem in the south today than on the west coast. Just my impression having lived almost half my life in the South and the other half in L.A.

I would say that’s because you’ve never lived as a black person in any part of the country. Look how they treat the Obamas - they are the first family…doesn’t spare them in the least.

I’m not sure where you are in LA (are you in the city proper?) or how long you’ve lived there, but there have been some improvements over the years.

And don’t get me wrong - it’s only a slight disagreement. I’m not saying the problems in “the south” are any better than anywhere else. But it’s probably clear I have a pretty jaundiced view of this entire country’s attitudes, not just the south’s.

Re: California, I left out plenty, because there’s so much to tell. There’s no end to the dumb segregationist passed by white bigots, against all comers.
