As long (if?) we are talking among GOP candidates, who is head and shoulders above Jeb on immigration? Pretend we have a police lineup of the GOP candidates. Let immigration advocates behind the two way mirror. Tell them they can eliminate all those except for one or two.

Who would be left? None is not an answer to this particular question.

What on earth is wrong with ‘none’ as an answer to the question posed? The parties are far enough apart on this issue (as on most issues) that party affiliation really is the only relevant piece of information for activists pro and con.

The public conversation I’d really like to have about US politics would focus on how so many people who are not themselves bigots, cranks and wingnuts consistently vote for the party of bigots, cranks and wingnuts.

This conversation doesn’t get off the ground if the media persists in fostering the illusion that ‘moderate Republicans’ exist.
