Could someone explain to me why it’s suddenly terribad to reference geek interests in connection to current events? I’d asked on Twitter, and a friend sent me this article. I kinda get, but I also kinda don’t get it.

I know it’s not good to cocoon yourself in comfy geekery and never confront what’s up, but the rage I see about this in some quarters seems all out of proportion.

I suspect a lot of it boils down to “You’re not doing what I think is important, so you SUCK” but I do want to see if there’s actually something else pushing this whole thing…

I don’t know if I would get into a flame war about it, but retreating into a fantasy world is a piss-poor way of dealing with politics, no matter who is doing it.
