re: #65 JordanRules

Okay, I’m not following here. You think people wanting proof or asking for sources is a new or a bad thing?

The amount of information on the internet is staggering. It’s rare when I can’t find something. People having access to all of this is ridiculously important. I’m super jealous of students having all of it at their fingertips.

I’m following the transcription and digitization efforts of the Smithsonian, specifically around the Freedman Bureau documents. When the fire went up at the National Museum in Brazil, I immediately wondered if they had digitized. The loss is incalculable, but I was hoping we could at least see their archive preserved digitally.

Well, my experience is, if I try to find a “citation” for anything that I once read, at best I can find an elementary-school once-over of the basic subject, with none of the details I can remember and am being asked to justify. Maybe I could remember where I read it, and buy the book on Amazon (I actually looked and found one such instance—it would only have cost me $159), scan the relevant pages, and email them to them. I’ll get right on that…
