I had heard claims that authority flows down from the Attorney General to the actions of his DOJ. And additional claims that an appointed AG was legally limited in what they could do. Therefore that many actions at DOJ would be questionable under Whittaker.

Does anyone know of any attempts to challenge DOJ actions on this basis?

There were some challenges to Whitaker’s appointment. But the Supreme Court declined to take up the issue last month in one case. There’s a few more cases still pending, but if Barr is confirmed can be rendered moot. (Though a case like this should fall under the category of “capable of repetition, yet evading review.”
