Cooper is a wealthy guy, but not that wealthy.

In the1860’s-1870’s, Cornelius Vanderbilt was the richest man in America. After he died, his eldest son and heir was the richest man in America until he died. Gloria Vanderbilt (Cooper’s mom) became the richest child in the world when her father died in the 1930’s… but assorted aunts/uncles/cousins/trustees/guardians greatly diminished that fortune. By the time she came of age she was still heiress-rich, but not Getty-rich or Rockefeller-rich.

By the 1970’s-1980’s, Gloria’s money was almost entirely her own earnings from her jeans company. Anderson Cooper inherited a couple of million from mom, but most of his own $100 million net worth is because his CNN salary is in the 8 figures (has been for years), and he’s invested reasonably well.
