This is America:

Bill Would Allow Academic Study of Bible in Public Schools

[…]

Altes’ bill would allow districts to adopt their own Bible-based curriculum for a non-religious, academic study of The Good Book. The course would also be elective, and held by the state board of education to the same standard as other approved courses.

Dale Almond, a River Market merchant, says other religions should be given the same opportunity.

[…]

The only problem is… the bill does not give the same opportunity to other religions and religious writings.

Here’s the text of the bill. (And here is last year’s version that was not enacted.)

The text, while throwing in all the clearly required (as illuminated by numerous court cases over the decades) caveats regarding no religious qualifications, etc., still clearly says only “Bible”.

And the reason is obvious, as the legislator in question has a particular worldview that sorts out the others.

Oh, and this ought not to surprise anyone, this legislator, D. Altes, also introduced the following bill last year:

THE DEFENSIVE CARRY RESTORATION ACT REGARDING THE DEFENSIVE CARRY OF FIREARMS.

He also seems to want to have a state Naturopathy board as part of the State medical hierarchy: AN ACT TO LICENSE NATUROPATHIC PRACTITIONERS.

This is America.
