Because Obama’s central message of hope was bought by the average American. This means that Americans hope that stuff will get done. The GOP’s message of “we have no ideas of our own except to shout crazy and easily disproved conspiracy stuff,” whilst being obstructionist, will not sway Americans who are fed up with the system. The Republicans are seen as part of the problem and even if Obama’s solutions are not the best, they will be seen as those who didn’t try to fix anything.
